Canada Western Special Purpose Wheat

Canada Western Special Purpose Wheat is Western Canada’s newest class of wheat. Varieties in the Canada Western Special Purpose class are only evaluated for agronomics and disease resistance and do not have to meet any quality requirements in order to be approved for variety registration by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Varieties are developed to provide farmers with the highest spring wheat yields possible and intended for as animal feeds or industrial ethanol, where high starch levels are desirable. Gluten properties are less critical as the varieties are not typically used for baking or other food applications.
